Bangladesh Press Council: Bangladesh Press Council was established in 1979 for the purpose of preserving and protecting the freedom of the press, maintaining and improving the standard of newspapers and news agencies. The council is a quasi-judicial body. The council decides complaints made to it against the news papers or news agencies under section 12 of the Press Council Act, 1974. Moreover the Press Appellate Board disposes of the appeal field against the failure of refusal to provide and canellation of declaration under section 9 and 20 respectively of the Printing Press and Publishing (Declaration and Registration) Act, 1973. The Council consists of a Chairman and fourteen other members for a period of two years.
